WELCOME STUDENTS OF FIDDLE!
Through fiddle tunes studied by ear and sheet music, improvisation exercises of all kinds, and musical games you will be immersed in a fun (perhaps even magical) weeklong experience. You will discover style points like special ways of sliding, rhythmic chopping and get to create your own music and accompany each other in small groups. Experienced or not, beginner or advanced, we hope you will delve into creativity and style with us this year!
BACKGROUND
“As a young violin student I got an incredible amount of musical inspiration and stylistic knowledge attending various fiddle camps. The tunes and techniques have stuck with me in a much different way than ones I’ve learned from books or recordings. I often find myself describing different fiddlers’ bowing motions, based on what I observed in person those summers, or just telling my students about the experiences of being there and getting to know the musicians. They gave me something to model myself after and a new level to strive for when improvising, accompanying, and performing. In organizing the my own camp, I wanted to create a similar experience, if I could, for students in Chicago.” – Zack Kline
